Here at the LJLD, we take pride in all we do for our members. Recently, Young Lawyer magazine published an article written by one of our committee members, explaining all we get up to. You can read it here: A summary of what we do.
Please also visit the national Junior Lawyers Division website and sign up to the newsletter to be kept up to date with issues which effect us as junior members of the profession:
Welfare and Charity Support
The LJLD is proud to have raised lots of money for the following charities:
Cancer Brown Dog
Our charity for 2017 is Cancer Brown Dog.
Cancer Brown Dog is an amazing Leicestershire based charity which raises money to purchase vital equipment and infrastructure to improve the detection and treatment of cancer and patient care. The charity has no administrative overheads therefore every penny raised goes directly to their cause.
Our annual charity quiz and 2017 LJLD Ball will be raising money for Cancer Brown Dog.
Cancer Brown Dog also run their own fundraising event- this year the challenge is a 52 mile trek through the Yorkshire Dales in June. Check out their website for more details http://cancerbrowndog.co.uk/current-campaign/
Wishes4Kids was our 2015-16 charity.
Wishes4Kids is a wonderful charity that helps to grant wishes for children and youngsters in Leicestershire who are life limited, terminally ill, have experienced life-changing physical or emotional traumas, have suffered major abuse or are diagnosed as HIV Positive. The Charity grants wishes for those of eighteen years and below.
Our annual quiz and Bollywood themed 2016 LJLD Ball helped raise lots of money for Wishes4Kids!
Our very first event on 28 February 2008 was Trial by Trivia: the annual legal sector quiz for Shelter.
Shelter assists the homeless and vulnerably housed, campaigns for decent housing for all and provides accessible housing advice and information via their website.
Shelter have confirmed to us that the LJLD has helped to raise over £4,000.00 over the past few years. They were kind enough to send us this letter for the funds raised at our 2012 quiz.
Trial by Trivia is an annual LJLD tradition, so keep an eye on our events pages for more details.
Due to the popularity of our 2012 LJLD Ball, we were lucky enough to be able to make a donation to local charity Loros. They were kind enough to send us a letter and certificate to acknowledge our donation. You can learn more about Loros here.
Leicester Kidney Patients Association
The LKPA is a self-governing body and charity raising money for people who suffer from kidney failure. Their activities include holding events for people who need support due to kidney failure and providing training and seminars for people on dialysis. At the heart of their work is supporting dialysis patients and making it easier for them and their families.
LKPA was LJLD’s charity for our annual ball 2009.
The AHS Foundation
The AHS Foundation is a small scale charity with low overheads (therefore maximum funds go to the beneficiaries) that operates from the UK, but was formed to assist the people of Pakistan who were affected by the devastating earthquake of 2005.
The charity has built schools and hospitals and provided access to clean drinking water and medical care. The LJLD Committee wishes the AHS Foundation all the very best in their future projects.
