We now have a number of vacant posts for our 2013 committee. If you would like to get more involved and join the LJLD Committee we would be delighted to hear from you! As in previous years, existing committee members will select new committee members to join the group, to ensure that the new committee is fairly balanced and works well together.
To apply for any of the 6 vacancies please email the committee president James Popplewell at email@example.com with a short statement as to why you be an excellent candidate for the vacant role (up to 300 words). As a guide, please state which role you are applying for, why you are applying for that role and what you will bring to the committee. You can apply for more than one role but if you do, please list the roles you are applying for in order of preference. The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday 11 January 2013 and results will be announced in mid-January. The 6 vacancies are as follows:
The Secretary works with the rest of the Committee to set the agenda for each Committee meeting, takes minutes at the monthly meetings, and disseminates the minutes to the Committee soon thereafter. The Secretary will also be required to book meeting venues and complete various other administrative duties as needed.
2. Membership Secretary
The Membership Secretary’s main role is to update and maintain the membership list. This officer will also regularly contact Leicestershire law firms and work to expand the LJLD membership. Other duties will include updating the constitution when required and liaising with other non-lawyer professional groups to increase turnout at LJLD events.
3. Events Officer
We have two events officers on the committee in total and currently there is one vacancy. The new events officer will work very closely with the other events officer, and together with the help of all committee members, this officer will work to organise exciting, enjoyable and well-attended events throughout the year. The events team will lead the Committee when it comes to planning our annual ball later in the year.
4. National JLD Representative
The National Representative shall work closely with the JLD national committee, including attending national committee meetings. The National Representative shall act as a liaison between the two organisations to ensure that the LJLD’s voice is heard and properly represented.
5. Academic Officer
The Academic Officer shall act as the liaison between the Committee and current / prospective student members of the LJLD. It shall be his / her responsibility to promote the aims and objectives of the LJLD to the local student population and act as a point of contact. This officer will also be expected to encourage students to attend LJLD events.
6. Social Media and Website Officer
The Social Media and Website Officer shall be responsible for maintaining the LJLD’s online presence, which shall include the website and all social media platforms. Knowledge and experience of using Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn is essential but additional training will be provided.
