LJLD COMMITTEE 2016

Want to join the LJLD committee? we will have four vacancies on our committee for 2016 and details on the vacant posts are outlined below. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain new skills, make new friends and put something positive on your CV.

Anyone who lives and / or works in Leicestershire can apply to join. The applicant must fall within our membership remit (law student, paralegal, trainee, or solicitor up to 5-years PQE), and either work in the legal profession or be a law student. Committee members are required to attend monthly meetings and attend our events. The vacant posts are as follows:

A. Events Officer – we currently have one vacancy for someone to join our existing events team. The new events officer will work closely with other events officers to organise exciting, enjoyable and well-attended events throughout the year. The Events Officers also lead the rest of the committee when it comes to planning our flagship Annual Ball at the end of the year. Experience of organising events will be an advantage but is not essential.

B. Student Officer – the Student Officer is responsible for maintaining the links between the LJLD and the 3 local universities (Leicester, De Montfort and Loughborough). The LJLD has widened its membership remit to include undergraduate law students, as well as GDL / LPC students. The Student Officer should work to make sure all local law students are aware of the LJLD and what it does; keep the committee updated on issues affecting students; and actively encourage students to attend all our events. The Student Officer must be a current law / GDL / LPC student.  Ideally, we would like to have a student from each local university to ensure that all local students are represented.

C. Membership Secretary – the Membership Secretary is responsible for maintaining the list of LJLD members, ensuring that the list is kept accurate, comprehensive and up to date. The Membership Secretary is also responsible for increasing the membership of the LJLD.

D. Publicity Officer – the Publicity Officer is responsible for external and internal publicity for the LJLD and creating publicity material for the events arranged by the LJLD.

If you would like to volunteer as a committee member in 2016 please send an email application of no more than around 300 words answering the following 4 questions:

1.         Provide your name and the name of your firm or university;
2.         Which role(s) are you applying for? (max two roles, listed in order of preference);
3.         Why are you are well suited to this role? (max 150 words per role applied for); and
4.         What will you bring to the committee? (max 150 words per role applied for).

Please email your applications directly to our Vice President, Gail Whyte, at gail.whyte@gateleyplc.com by the closing date of 5pm on 18 December 2015. Also please feel free to email her before applying if you have any questions.

The existing committee will review and vote for new committee members and successful applicants will be informed in early-January 2015. They will then be invited to attend the first committee meeting later in January. Please note there is a maximum limit of two people from any one firm serving on the committee in any given year.

The 2015 Committee thank you for your support during the past year and look forward to hearing from you.
